So, The meditation audio file was not the "journey" that I was hoping for. Although I wont stop believing anytime soon, I don't feel that the guided meditation style of relaxation is something that I personally can rely upon. As my hectic life and my stressful career have taught me, it is quite important to find a way to relax and de-stress so that you don't "take it home with you". I certainly have an abundance of experience with managing stress as well as holding in anger and frustration resultant from some of the more horrific calls which I have been a part of. For me, the most effective tool for relaxation and relieving stress is through laughter and humor (as morbid and often "sick" as it can be in my field). Additionally, I like to rely upon nature and the ability to enjoy my surroundings to help me to come down out of the bell tower at the end of a particularly stressful day. There really is noting like a walk on the beach or a stroll through the woods to help you to refocus and feel peaceful again.Though I do feel there is some value in the practice of meditation and guided relaxation, I do not find that it is a technique which would be particularly helpful to me. Lord knows, as soon as I would start to get into the groove of focusing on relaxation, the bells would inevitably go off and startle me from my deep meditative state leaving me half-meditated (and no one wants to see a half-meditated fireman).

  1. Hi Leo!

I really enjoyed the relaxation exercise. For me it was very relaxing and calming. I was able to go to a quiet place to complete the exercise. This exercise can be very beneficial when you are at home in a quiet area. No, this will not work for your while you are at work because there is no telling when you have to go out for an emergency. I to like taking a nature walk or walking on the beach and listen to the waves in the ocean. The sound of the ocean is very calimg.

  2. Hi Leo,
I've used this type of relaxation technique many times before, but because of my personality, I really prefer other things. I understand what you mean about laughter. I have a back ground of many people in my family, friends and people around me dieing. I noticed how much laughter really helps you heal. When people are dieing or suffering around you on a regular basis, you have to develope a path to mental and emotional healing that works for you. I learned how to do intercessory pray, and what is termed "praying in the Spirit" many years ago. This gives power to each person I pray for to find their destiny, or puts them on the path toward it. I used to like to pray for people who had cancer so that they would be healed, but when I used the same prayer technique on my own mother when she was in the hospital and she later died of a blood clot to the heart, I learned that you can't interfer with what another person's will is. She was tired of being here because she had been ill from a weak heart for most of her life and her favorite saying was; "Beam me up Scotty". The more I understand pre-destiny and the choices that people make before they get here, the easier it is to deal with death. This in itself is a stress reliever.

  3. You've got a good point. I feel the same way when trying to meditate while expecting the phone to ring or someone to come to the door. Not as bad as waiting for a fire bell to sound but I get your point Loud and Clear.
